Classic Beef Burgers
Ingredients
Patties:
2 lb ground beef (80/20)
3 tbsp olive or avocado oil
2 tbsp salt
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
Cracked black pepper
Toppings:
1 large Spanish onion
Cheese (of choice)
Tomato
Lettuce
Method
In a large bowl, add the ground beef, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and some cracked pepper. Using your hands or a spatula, mix until combined.
Portion the meat into about 4.5-ounce portions and press them into round patties that are about 5 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch thick.
Slice the onions into thick rounds and set aside.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat until very hot, then increase the heat to medium-high. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the pan and place the patties down. Sear for 3-4 minutes before flipping and searing the other side for another 3-4 minutes for medium-rare, or 4-7 minutes for medium.
Remove the patties from the skillet once seared and allow them to rest. In the meantime, cook the onions. Add the onion rounds to the hot pan and season with salt and pepper. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are softened and caramelized.
Assemble your burger with all your favorite toppings and condiments and enjoy!
Notes
I am convinced that there is simply nothing better than a good burger. Keeping the patties simple but well-seasoned is key, and this is my personal favorite way to prepare them.
I prefer my burger medium-rare, but if you prefer medium, just extend the cooking time on each side by a couple of minutes. Using an internal temperature is also a good idea. For medium-rare, aim for 135°F, and for medium to medium-well, look for 145°F-155°F.
