Turkey Burgers

Ingredients

  • 2lb ground turkey

  • 1 egg

  • 2 tbsp kosher salt

  • 2 tbsp worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce or tamari

  • 1/2 a large spanish onion, grated

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • 2 tbsp avocado or olive oil

  • 8 slices colby jack cheese

  • 8 slices swiss cheese

  • 1 large tomato, sliced

  • 1 head of bib or iceberg lettuce

  • 8 burger buns

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, egg, salt, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce or tamari, onion, and pepper. Using your hands or a rubber spatula, mix until thoroughly combined. The mixture will be wet, that’s normal.

  2. Line a sheet tray with foil and/or parchment paper. Wet your hands with a bit of water, then form 8 equal-sized patties. If you'd like to weigh them, each patty should be about 0.25 pounds. Place the formed patties on the prepared sheet tray.

  3. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Place a large skillet over medium-low heat and allow it to heat up for about 8 minutes. Once the skillet is hot, add 1 tablespoon of oil and coat the pan. Add 4 of the patties and raise the heat to medium-high. Cook for 3 minutes per side. Once cooked, remove the patties and return them to the sheet tray.

  4. Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the skillet and cook the remaining four patties for 3 minutes on each side. Transfer them to the sheet tray with the others.

  5. Top each burger with a slice of colby jack and a slice of swiss cheese. Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 5 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the burgers are fully cooked.

  6. Remove the burgers from the oven and serve immediately on buns with tomato, lettuce, and your favorite condiments. Enjoy!

Notes

  • These turkey burgers are super moist and flavorful! The raw mixture will be quite wet, so lightly wetting your hands before mixing and forming the patties will help prevent it from sticking.

  • Cook the burgers to an internal temperature of 155°F–160°F for the perfect juicy result.

  • Use whatever cheese you like, I love the combination of swiss and colby jack. Cheddar, havarti, provolone, or muenster all work beautifully too!
